Even though all the famous Vegas hotel casinos are doing their best to attract more Vegas visitors this year with discounts and vouchers, their slot machine business is slumping. And while Vegas slot machine business creates about two thirds of the state’s earnings, it’s not such great news for the Sin City hotel casinos.

According to the Gaming Control Board, gamblers are wagering $1.1 billion less in slot machines than last year. Slot machines on The Las Vegas Strip are down half a billion dollars. This signifies a drop of 12% compared to 2007. With drivers paying more than $4 per gallon for gas, gamblers are really having to budget their spending these days. On the other hand with the price of fuel on the decline, these figures could change in the coming months.

Sin City hotel casinos aren’t really concerned about this slump in slot machine proceeds, the latest figures show that table game play is actually increasing. On The Strip the volume for table games is up 5 percent, with baccarat play up 15 percent and blackjack on the rise at 7 percent. Even though this may seem like a good thing, the truth is that Strip casinos took in 21 percent less in July because of some lucky Las Vegas gamblers as well as bettors winning a larger percentage than typical.

The famous saying, “The house always wins”, may have been true in the past. But as these reports tell us, Las Vegas hotel casinos are are finding it more difficult to make a profit than before. This might be a prime time for Sin City gamblers to start using their hotel casino coupons, taking advantage of rebates, and using their frequent flyer miles. With the Vegas hotel casinos having a run of bad luck, this might be the most convenient occasion for you to take a long vacation in Las Vegas.
